Issues:
Political influence: My wife. She comes from a woman’s perspective, but at the same time she works with folks on a daily basis and she comes at things from an unbiased perspective. I don’t have to worry about her telling me what I want to hear, she tells me what she hears.
Budget recommendations: Taking care of this immigration problem would help cut our expenses. For raising revenues, I think we need to put people back to work and get business back in here so we have more revenues.
Other concerns: Public safety is huge for me and veterans’ issues are huge. We have a lot of veterans on the streets who are homeless, and we have a lot of issues from past wars that haven’t been taken care of.
Fiscal philosophy: Smaller government, allowing people to keep the wages that they earn. Smaller government is a better government.
Background & experience: Owning my own business has been a huge part [in preparing me to be a legislator] — understanding how to make payroll and insurance, and firing people when they’re not doing a good job.
Proposition 100 sales tax: I originally supported it on the condition that I thought we were going to get the jobs bill passed with it. I’m already seeing with my business that people are having a harder time buying.
Pro-life/pro-choice: I don’t support abortion unless in the extreme cases of rape or incest or the possibility of death to the mother.
One last thing: My concern is to make certain that my bill (HCR2008), which recognizes the constitutional right to hunt and fish is passed by voters this year. This is a way of life for a lot of people, and I want to protect it.
Campaign Finance: private.
