Religious preference: Christian.

Education: B.S., recreation administration and sociology, University of North Colorado, 1971.

Political experience: Former precinct committeeman; Washington Elementary School Board, 1995-98; AZ Senate since 2005; AZ House 1997-04.

Memberships have included: Angel Tree Project (assists prisoners’ children); recipient of MADD’s 2000 “Making a Difference” Award; recipient of the 2006 Caring Spirit Award for a bill that gave more funding for assisting seniors with Meals on Wheels; Governor’s Office of Highway Safety 2001 Award; AZ Alcohol & Drug Abuse 2001 Advocate of the Year Award; 2003 MADD Recognition award; board member, National Foundation of Women Legislators; National Safety Council, committee on alcohol and other drugs.

Interests: Travel, hiking, sewing.

Issues:

Political influence: Former Speaker Jim Weiers for his encouragement and also his down-to-earth analytical ability to explain bills. He is always up front and honest with all people.

Budget recommendations: Typically the agencies know where they can cut more than a legislator. The antique car owners contacted me and said they would be willing to pay more than $25.00 for their license fee. Many of these vehicles are very expensive and they could afford to pay more.

Other concerns: Public safety is always a prime concern and a quality education for AZ students.

Fiscal philosophy: Don’t spend beyond your means. Borrowing just costs taxpayers more.

Background & experience: I’ve worked with a diverse group of people with a greater ear for understanding than speaking to people.

Prop. 100 sales tax: I support it because teachers deserve a fair wage for all that they do for children.

Pro-life/pro-choice: I am pro-life.

One last thing: My family has been in public service, my husband of 36 years, with Phoenix P.D. and the Marines. My son spent 6 years in the Navy, 4 years at Phoenix Children’s Hospital as a nurse and now is in the Air Force. My daughter is a 7th and 8th grade math teacher.

Campaign Finance: public.
