Issues
Political influence: Gandhi.
Top priority: Immigration reform, balanced budget, energy independence/alternative energy.
Respected opponent: Dennis Kucinich because he works for what is “fair” and “just” and not for what is popular or easy.
Wall St bailout: As a Green, I feel any support should have been given to the people first: “trickle up economics.” It didn’t address the true problems with the economy. There were some good add-ins in the final hour, like the alternative energy tax credits, to make it more palatable to the masses, but overall it was a bad bill.
Stimulus Act: I agree with the economists that are saying it wasn’t large enough to get the best effect for a jolt to the economy. And while tax cuts are important, timing makes a huge difference in its success and long-term effects.
Health care overhaul: Even though it’s not a perfect law, it provides for protection and affordable healthcare to individuals with pre-existing conditions and it increases the availability of healthcare to millions that had limited or no options for coverage.
