Issues:

Political influence: Mr. Davis, my high school government teacher. He loved teaching and gave me a greater understanding of our country’s government and the thought and insight that went into our Constitution.

Top priority: To balance the budget and stop out-of-control spending. It is unsustainable. We are already spending massive amounts on interest for our national debt. If we do not stop the spending, in the future the debt and associated interest will reach a level that we cannot pay, and our county’s economy will collapse.

Respected opponent: John F. Kennedy. I respect his role in the civil rights movement. He had the courage to do what was right even when his involvement could have cost him support from his own party. Second, he led our country into space. Third, he showed a great love of freedom and empathy for the plight of others who do not have freedom when he said the famous phrase “Ich bin ein Berliner” (I am a Berliner) to the West Berliners.

Wall Street bailout: Although I am against government interference in the private sector, I believe some form of aid was required. The county was on the verge of financial collapse. I would have preferred more restrictions on the money that was loaned and the dollar amounts to have been smaller. Many misused or took advantage of the loan they were given. I am thankful to see that much of the money is being repaid.

Stimulus Act: I do not support and would not have voted for the ARRA. Stimulus plans take money out of the economy

Health care overhaul: The American people deserved better healthcare than that which was forced upon us. I would support repealing the law and starting over with a plan that will make healthcare more affordable and ensure that America still continues to have innovative and quality healthcare. The plan should include the ability for people to receive the same health insurance tax deductions that companies do. It should also provide health savings account tax incentives, break up government-created monopolies by allowing out-of-state purchases of health insurance, and reduce wasteful and unjust lawsuits through tort reform.
