This is one of four Hispanic-majority districts in the state; the others are districts 14, 16 and 29. At 57,485 this district has the second fewest registered voters in the state (LD-14 has but 40,432). By percentage, this district also has the third-fewest registered Republicans in the state; LD-2 has 15.1 percent, and LD-16 has 15.8 percent. Despite losing their absolute majority among registered voters in 2002, this is a reliably Democratic district and has sent only Democrats to the Legislature since 2002. This district has the fewest college graduates (5.5 percent) of any district in the state and fourth-lowest percentage of persons over 18 with military service. It also has the fourth-lowest per-capita income (although its percentage of persons below the poverty level is in the middle third of districts.
