Geographic Description of Legislative District 20

This district comprises parts of three cities: the portion of Phoenix that lies south of South Mountain (Ahwatukee), Tempe (south of Guadalupe and Elliot roads) and west Chandler. To its north lie districts 16 and 17. To its east is District 21. To its south is the Gila River Indian Community, which is part of District 23. The western boundary of the district is coterminous with the western boundary of South Mountain Park. From Estrella Dr. and 47th Ave., the district follows the park boundary east to roughly the alignment of 40th St. and Guadalupe Rd. The line then goes east, dipping south slightly to exclude the town of Guadalupe. At Hardy Dr. and Guadalupe Rd., the district line goes east to Rural Rd., south one mile to Elliot, east two miles to Price Rd., then north one-half mile to the border of Chandler at the Western Canal. It follows the canal east to Dobson Rd. before cutting south to carve out the western part of Chandler. The district line goes south from the canal 2½ miles to Ray Rd., east one mile to Alma School Rd., south to Germann Rd. and then west to Price and the boundary with the Gila River Indian Community. It follows Price north to Pecos and then west (still along the border with tribal land) to the border with Phoenix, just south of the intersection of the Santan Fwy. (Loop 202) and I-10. It follows the boundary of the reservation west and then northwest to the starting point. Major retail outlets in the district include Chandler Fashion Mall, the Tempe Auto Mall, and considerable commercial development on both sides of I-10 between Elliot Rd. and Chandler Blvd.
