Geographic Description of Legislative District 8

This legislative district encompasses most of Scottsdale, and all of Fountain Hills and Rio Verde. It is one of three pillar-shaped districts (6, 7 and 8) that stretch along the northern part of the Valley from I-17 on the west to the Verde River on the east. The southern-most two miles of Scottsdale are excluded from the district (they lie in District 17), as the district line follows the western boundary of the city of Scottsdale from the intersection of Oak St. and the Arizona Cross Cut Canal north to the
Loop 101. The district line goes east along the 101 to Pima Rd. and then north to Stage Coach Pass Rd., where it jogs east to exclude Cave Creek before heading north again to the Yavapai County line at a point north of Seven Springs. The district line goes east along the county boundary to Horseshoe Dam and then heads south, following the Verde River through Bartlett Reservoir all the way to Rio Verde Dr. It then makes a cut-out to the east to include Rio Verde and goes south along McDowell Mountain Rd. and then follows the western boundary of the Fort McDowell Reservation, which lies to the east in District 23. The district line follows the reservation boundary to where it meets the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community Reservation and follows that reservation’s northern boundary west to the Scottsdale city line at Pima Rd. The district line then heads south along Pima Rd. to Thomas and the starting point. Legislative District 23 lies to the east of this district, District 17 to the south, District 4 to the north, and districts 7 and 11 to the west.
