Geographic Description of Legislative District 9

This district west of Phoenix comprises the town of Youngtown, the unincorporated retirement community of Sun City as well as parts of Peoria (all of that city south of Union Hills Rd.) and Glendale (a section generally from Peoria Ave. on the south to Bell Rd. on the north. The Agua Fria River forms much of the western boundary of the district. Major commercial centers within the district include Arrowhead Towne Center and the Peoria Sports Complex. Glendale Community College is also within the district’s boundaries. To the north is District 4, to the east is District 10, and to the south and west is District 12.

The New River bisects the district north to south. Peoria and Glendale lie east of the riverbed, to its west are Sun City, and, toward the southern boundary of the district, the town of Youngtown. The Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway parallels the river through the district. Completed in 2000, the freeway has stimulated considerable commercial and residential development along its flanks.
