Issues:

Political influence: Louis Hartz [Capitol Reports note: Hartz was an American political scientist (1919-86).]

Changes to duties: None.

Top priority: Protecting our border — the attorney general should beef up activity on the border (reopen the Douglas office and beef up the Nogales office, which is down to one person), form partnerships with other law enforcement organizations to help enforce immigration laws, and lead the effort to pressure the federal government to finish the wall at the border. I endorse the Arizona Cattle Growers’ Association’s Restore our Border Security Plan.

Minimum sentencing: (I favor) mandatory sentences.

Background & experience: As former special assistant attorney general, an evaluation of my work by the then-AG office stated: “During this intense and extremely pressured situation, Mr. Horne at all times performed as a brilliant, masterful, and persuasive litigator.” Other experience includes: lawyer for 30 years; substantial jury trial experience; judge pro tem; Superior Court and Court of Appeals; substantial service in all branches of state government: superintendent of schools, former member of the Legislature, former judge pro tem, school board member for Arizona’s third largest district for 24 years and 10 years as its president.

Prop. 100 sales tax: It is no longer an issue. The issue now is to be sure that the proceeds of the sales tax are used for the purposes that were promised.

Campaign finance: private.
