Issues:
Political influence: My grandpa is an old rancher from southern Arizona who calls it like it is. We talk often about politics and the way it should be. I love our conversations. Budget recommendations: 1) Consolidate smaller state agencies and share accounting, IT, human resources, etc. 2) Update the computer systems being used by the state to reduce costly repairs and to automate several tasks being completed manually.
Other concerns: 1) Education reform including use of technology in the classroom, performance pay, and teacher evaluations. 2) Tax policy overhaul. We will need a completely different tax structure to support Arizona for the next 20 years.
Fiscal philosophy: If you don’t have it you can’t spend it, and there are always more efficient and innovative ways to do things. You just need to be motivated to make it happen. Background & experience: Being a CPA, a business owner with many employees, and a father of seven children, I can say my background provides me with a level of empathy not always shared by lawmakers.
Proposition 100 sales tax: The temporary sales tax bought us three years to completely restructure our tax policies for the next 20 years. We cannot be dependent on sales taxes when the internet is tax free, and we cannot compete against the tribes for economic development when they have cash and no property taxes. We must make the best of the three years we have.
Pro-life/pro-choice: I am opposed to abortion except when necessary to save the life of the mother. One last thing: I have a perfect voting record on sanctity of life, marriage and family, states’ rights, gun owner rights, and lower taxes. I look forward to continue to work on big reform issues during the next two years.
Campaign Finance: private.
