Democratic Attorney General Terry Goddard is challenging Republican Gov. Jan Brewer to a series of debates.
Goddard suggests a lineup of six debates around the state, each on a specific topic such as the state budget, public safety, education, jobs, immigration and border security. His suggested locations include Tucson, Kingman, Sierra Vista, Phoenix, Yuma and Flagstaff.
Brewer and Goddard both must participate in a Sept. 1 debate because they have accepted public campaign funding. Brewer spokesman Doug Cole says the campaign won’t consider other debates until after the scheduled Sept. 1 event.
Goddard is unopposed in next Tuesday’s Democratic primary, while Brewer faces little-known moderate Matt Jette (JETT’-ee) on the Republican side.
