Republican John McCain spent nearly $2.5 million during a two-month period ending on Sept. 30 in his bid to win a fifth term in the U.S. Senate.
The figure includes spending made near the end of his campaign against primary challenger J.D. Hayworth and as his general election race against Democrat Rodney Glassman began.
His $1.5 million of fundraising during this period consists of $641,000 in contributions and a $925,000 transfer of money left over from his 2008 presidential bid. McCain had $554,000 remaining.
McCain spent about $20 million in his campaign to defeat Hayworth.
Glassman’s latest campaign finance report hasn’t yet been posted on the Federal Election Commission’s website.
