1901 E Ludlow Dr, Phoenix, AZ 85022.

Age: 35. (Durango, CO).

Arizona since: 2000.

Occupation: Paralegal, Polsinelli, Shughart, since 2000.

Marital: Single.

Education: M.S., environmental management technology, ASU (expected to complete in near future); B.A., communication studies, Cal State Univ-Sacramento, 2000.

Political experience: LD 6 precinct captain and committeeman; former chair, North Valley Young Republicans; former AZ Young Republican League liaison to the Teenage Young Republicans.

Legis exp: House since 2011. (Appointed 2/17/10 to replace Sam Crump, who resigned to run for CD-3.)

Memberships: Founding member, AZ Republican Lawyer Assn; AZ Environmental Strategic Alliance, Advisory Council member.

Political influence: My family, collectively, have been the most influential people in my political development. They keep me grounded and help me remember to see the big picture. Having such a large family has been a true asset, because everyone has differing views, unique expertise and experiences that enable me to see issues through different perspectives. Most importantly, they remind me to never lose myself and to always conduct myself with the utmost integrity. They never let me forget that the most important part of my job as a state Legislator is to listen to and work with others.

Job creation measures: Improving our educational system to ensure that our children receive the highest quality of education, thus providing our Arizona employers with the best and the brightest work force. Reducing the corporate income tax and creating a limited and stable regulatory environment.

Top issues: The top two concerns that have been, and will continue to be, my focus include: (1) jobs, economy and education; and (2) public safety. Education goes hand-in-hand with jobs and economy. No one is going to want to raise their child in an educationally defunct environment; nor do businesses want to operate in an area where they are unable to recruit an educated work force. Education is a driving force behind anyone’s success, which is why it is critical that we improve our educational system. Public safety is another critical factor. Parents want to know that their neighborhood is a safe place to raise their families and that their children are safe when they are at school learning. This is why I have sponsored several pieces of legislation focusing on this area, and I will continue to advocate for safe neighborhoods and schools.

Prop 100 sales tax extension: Arizona has one of the highest sales taxes in the country. We need to stop looking at taxes as a way of resolving our problems. That is the equivalent of throwing a band-aid on a severed artery. School funding is the bleed but the heart condition is our entire school finance statute. Arizona has implemented several educational choice options for parents, and our school finance laws need to be updated to both address funding, educational adequacy, and measurable results.

Illegal immigration: We need to continue to provide our public safety personnel with the resources necessary to effectively and efficiently perform their duties.

Background & experience: Growing up in a big family with parents who ran two businesses, a cattle ranch and a hotel resort, I learned early on the importance of working hard, working together, learning from each other, and listening to one another. As a paralegal, the ability to read, understand, and research legislation and its impacts has been vital in assuring I cast the right vote on bills. Finally, being in ASU’s Environmental Technology Management graduate program, along with my years of experience as a paralegal, has prepared me for taking the lead on many of the environmental concerns facing our state.

Pro-life / pro-choice: I am pro-life.

One last thing: I am running for reelection because I am passionate about Arizona. Most of my family lives here. My nephews were born here. They are being raised in Arizona and are attending school here. I have a sister teaching at an Arizona public high school, and a brother-in-law that serves in law enforcement. Arizona is a great state and I want to continue to work towards making it better.

Campaign Finance: private.
