Two biggest issues: Arizona’s image is a big issue – it’s up to the electorate who they choose to elect, and I believe there will be more scrutiny of candidates in the upcoming election. As an elected official, I will continue to ask for more funding for public education. Education is the path for good jobs.
Budget priorities: Again, our state has lost an enormous amount of revenue due to Arizona’s bad image and tourism revenue has declined. We need to add more money to the Office of Tourism. Competition for tourists’ dollars is fierce, not only among states, but worldwide.
Fiscal philosophy: Moderate.
Common Core: Yes. It is a set of English and math standards the State Board of Education adopted in 2010. Arizona and school districts are the ones that control the curriculum.
Gifts to elected officials: I don’t see the need for reforms. However, if there should be abuses, then it should be addressed.
Transparency in government: It is of great importance and concern and has been improved.
Pro-life / pro-choice: Let a woman make her own decisions. Her decision is not the business of any legislator. Why not look and address the need for an abortion? Was it rape? Was it incest? Was it someone who said he was a single guy but in reality a married man out for a fling? Go after the male that caused the unconscionable act!
Public policy advice: I turn to staff, and I have a variety of sources for advice.
