Two biggest issues: The act of crossing a line in the desert drawn by the state is a victimless crime. America’s immigration problems exist because government places too many roadblocks in the path of legal immigrants. Government should never interfere with your freedom to travel or dictate where in the world you can and can’t live. I think we should have a free market for drugs. You own your body and should be allowed to put anything you want into it. Our current problems with gang and cartel violence are caused entirely by the black markets that arise from prohibition. With regard to marijuana laws, I will sponsor legislation to deregulate and get government out of the way so that our marijuana entrepreneurs can thrive, grow their business, and create high-paying private sector jobs.
Budget priorities: I will work to reduce the revenue in our state government’s coffers. I fundamentally disagree with the idea that it’s good to give the government money. I will work to cut spending by reducing the pay and benefits of all government employees, including teachers and police. Those people are overpaid and their labor unions take advantage of the public sympathy for them to rob the taxpayers blind.
Fiscal philosophy: Taxation is theft. All government financing should be voluntary.
Common Core: Common Core is a centralized, homogenized, one-size- fits-all approach to education passed down by the feds. Arizona should instead allow for unlimited school choice. Schools should be allowed to teach any subject or curriculum they want and parents should be free to send their kids to any school they want. Introducing market competition into the school system will provide better variety, quality, and innovation than central government planning ever could.
Gifts to elected officials: Passing laws against bribery is futile in stopping corruption. The incentive for corruption exists because politicians hold the power to pass out money and favors to special interests. By stripping politicians of their power to make laws and spend taxpayer money we can eliminate corruption because there won’t be anything of value to gain by giving a politician a bribe.
Transparency in government: “The government says ‘If you’re not doing anything wrong, you shouldn’t have anything to hide.’ If that is true, shouldn’t the government declassify everything?”
Pro-life / pro-choice: I don’t care.
Public policy advice: Frederic Bastiat.
