Two biggest issues: Welcoming home Arizona Veterans after more than a decade of war. Expand the capacity and capabilities of the Arizona Dept of Veterans Services to create job-training programs , supplement GI Bill education benefits and hire more veterans benefits counselors that can support veterans navigating federal VA benefits. No veteran should ever go without access to high quality and timely health care. The egregious allegations against the Phoenix VA hospital only highlights how much the state needs to step up to support returning veterans as they transition to civilian life. Competing in a global economy requires more college graduates. Link K-12 education to higher education and workforce development through an Arizona Service Corps. Pay for the full cost of one year of community college for any Arizona high school graduate that commits to a year of service in Arizona working in state parks, community centers, schools or hospitals. If you invest in Arizona, Arizona will invest in you.

Budget priorities: Invest in education, creating quality jobs, and providing veteran services. Recommendation: Vote for a Democratic Governor, Senate and House.

Fiscal philosophy: Pay-as-you-go.

Common Core: Yes. All students deserve high expectations. The more rigorous standards provide a much greater emphasis on analytical skills, problem solving and critical thinking.

Gifts to elected officials: Yes. Completely ban elected officials from accepting gifts from lobbyists or companies and individuals with financial interests before the government.

Transparency in government: Extremely important. The public deserves transparency and public notice at all levels of government and throughout the legislative process.

Pro-life / pro-choice: Pro-choice.

Public policy advice: My wife. My voters. I will have an open door policy with anyone or any group that wants to discuss policy issues directly with me.
