Two biggest issues: Creating higher paying jobs in a sustainable economy; making sure Arizona invests in education to give our state the competitive edge that is so critical to our future.

Budget priorities: We must refund our public education system from elementary school through college, as without an educated work force, Arizona will continue to struggle to attract higher-paying jobs from new industries. Provide incentives for businesses in order to better assure sustainable, higher-paying jobs that stay in Arizona. Create private/public partnerships to invest in businesses in biomedicine, clean technology, and renewable energy – Arizona should be a world leader in solar energy. Focus on transportation infrastructure funding and improving opportunities for trade.

Fiscal philosophy: Pragmatic compassion. We always need to balance what are common sense, fiscal measures — eliminating waste and inefficiencies, and ensuring that programs truly give people what they need to help themselves — with ensuring that every Arizonan has a fair, fighting chance to pursue the American dream.

Common Core: Yes. We need to raise standards of education in Arizona. We must prepare our students to have every opportunity for success in a global economy.

Gifts to elected officials: Legislators should be precluded from accepting gifts from lobbyists.

Transparency in government: Government belongs to its citizens. Those citizens have a right to complete transparency. Wherever feasible, public notice of policies, meetings and fiscal matters should be provided to our Arizona communities.

Pro-life / pro-choice: I support a woman’s right to choose. Government should not be in the position of legislating morality and should not interfere in the medical decisions between a woman and her doctor.

Public policy advice: I work very closely with the most experienced staff members and experts in the field of related issues.
