Arizona since: 1993

Occupation: Part owner and VP, Arizona Sandwich Shops, Inc., dba Dilly’s Deli and Floridino’s Pizza and Pasta.

Marital: Married

Children: 3

Education: Attended Wichita State university; Kapaun Mount Carmel H.S., 1988.

Political experience: Councilman, Chandler City Council, since 2006; vice mayor, City of Chandler, 2012-13; precinct committeeman; 1st vice chair, LD 20.

Interests: Family, sports, politics, travel.

Two biggest issues: CPS: The governor and the Legislature have led a noble effort thus far in revamping the former CPS. I would work to make sure that effort is sustained and enhanced if possible. This issue can’t be allowed to fall by the wayside. Tax policy: I believe we need to remain competitive with our neighboring states. Having said that, I would like to see a wholesale approach to reforming our tax system rather than carve outs year by year. It needs to be fair and level for all businesses and residents.

Budget priorities: I believe, first and foremost, one-time money needs to be invested into the states computer infrastructure. Everyone I have talked to has said it is seriously outdated. This wastes taxpayers’ money in lost efficiencies and, in the case of CPS, it could cost the state more than money. That can’t continue.

Fiscal philosophy: I am a fiscal conservative. I believe Arizona has to continue growing our economy. Chandler is a perfect example of a city that has many new jobs and, with that, new taxpayers. Cost of service is among the very lowest in the Valley because of prudent budget planning and the many jobs that we have.

Common Core: I believe we have to have high standards. If I am elected I will fund the standards that are in place. However, I would support an alternate and superior standard that isn’t tied to the U.S. Dept of Education.

Gifts to elected officials: I haven’t made a decision either way. I have been very transparent while elected to council, and I will continue that if elected to the state Legislature.

Transparency in government: I believe it is very important. In Chandler, I drafted an ordinance that makes the government also announce on social media if they are going to raise taxes or fees. I believe it is imperative that constituents have an opportunity to communicate to lawmakers on issues that are being voted on.

Pro-life / pro-choice: I am pro-life.

Public policy advice: I am open to advice and information from anyone. Transparency means to me that I have an open door policy. I would look to citizens, business groups like GPEC, Chandler Chamber, AZ Chamber, ACA, Small Business Alliance as well as any others that reach out. I would continue to seek the opinions of Congressman Salmon and Congressman Schweikert. Rep. JD Mesnard and Rep. Robson have both been important over the years with understanding policy from a state perspective.
