Alternative Congressional Map

House Speaker Andy Tobin today proposed an alternative redistricting plan that he wants to send to the ballot. If he is successful, voters statewide will choose whether to replace the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission’s maps with his own.

Below is the Paulden Republican’s proposed alternative congressional map. It creates four to five Republican-leaning districts, two Democratic-leaning districts and two to three competitive districts, depending on the competitiveness index used. The Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission’s adopted congressional map creates four Republican-leaning districts, two Democratic-leaning districts and three competitive districts.

Alternative Legislative Map

Tobin’s map has 17 Republican-leaning districts, 9 Democratic-leaning districts and four that are considered competitive, whereas the IRC’s legislative map has 16 districts deemed safe for Republicans, 10 that are safe for Democrats and four that are considered competitive.
