Legislative Maps
Below is the IRC’s draft legislative map that was approved by a 4-1 vote at the Oct. 10 meeting. Pink markers indicate incumbent senators. Yellow dots indicate incumbent representatives. Clicking anywhere within a district shows the district number, as well as data on party registration and other demographics.
Congressional Map
The Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission voted 3-1 on Oct. 3 to adopt the congressional map below. The map was finalized by independent chairwoman Colleen Mathis. Mathis and the two Democratic commissioners, José Herrera and Linda McNulty, voted for the plan, with Republican Richard Stertz voting against and Republican Scott Freeman abstaining.
In the days since its adoption, Gov. Jan Brewer as well as Republican members of Arizona’s congressional delegation and Republican state lawmakers have voiced their displeasure with the map and with the commission’s work more generally. Although there are few specific complaints, the GOP backlash has called the commission’s work “hijacked” and their plan a “Democratic dream map.”
