McGregor named ‘special master’ over county lawsuits

Arizona Supreme Court Chief Justice Rebecca White Berch named former colleague Ruth McGregor as special master in charge of administering any and all lawsuits that arise out of Arpaio/Thomas investigations of Maricopa County Superior Court judges and the county’s Board of Supervisors.
The precedent has no “apples to apples” comparison, said court spokeswoman Jennifer Liewer, who added the inter-county friction presents a “pretty unique situation.” Berch’s two-page administrative order gives McGregor authority to assign the county-related lawsuits to judges of her choosing, including judges in any Arizona county, Liewer said.
