Homeowners trying to save their houses from foreclosure are expected to descend on the Phoenix Convention Center for help on Thursday.

Counselors approved by the federal Housing and Urban Development Department will meet with homeowners. Then the borrowers will meet with a representative of their lender.

Nearly 20 lenders will be on hand to advise homeowners about options such as loan modifications.

The Help for Homeowners event is sponsored by the federal Making Home Affordable Program and runs from 11 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.
