Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer is planning to attend a rally at the Capitol this week designed to pressure lawmakers into approving her plan to expand Medicaid.
Wednesday morning’s rally on the House lawn is the fourth the governor has attended since she announced in January she wants to expand the state’s health insurance for the poor to 300,000 more people.
Medicaid expansion is a signature part of President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul law. Brewer was among the governors who sued to block the Affordable Care Act but the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the law last year.
Conservative Republicans in the Legislature oppose the plan and it’s essentially in limbo until a deal is struck. Brewer has said she will not sign a budget without the Medicaid expansion provision.
