Voters Agree Education Beyond High School Critical for State’s Success
As part of Education Forward Arizona’s Everything to Gain campaign, a public opinion poll of Arizona voters shows overwhelming support for education and training after high school and a mandate for the state’s elected, business, and education leaders to provide more education and training opportunities for Arizona student and adults.
The state’s attainment goal calls for 60 percent of Arizona adults to have a college degree or certificate, while a recent update of the Arizona’s Education Progress Meter (a joint effort of Education Forward Arizona and the Center for the Future of Arizona) shows that only 48 percent of Arizonans have a postsecondary degree or certification. That means that we need another 500,000 degrees and certifications―and we only have six years left to do it.
This is more than an education issue; it’s an issue imperative to the state’s economic well-being. The panel below will discuss findings from the public opinion poll, the value of education and training beyond high school to individuals as well as the state, and actions needed to close the attainment gap.
