It’s hard to compete with a venue that has its own swimming pool and a sports bar overlooking left field, as Chase Field’s fans can attest. Completed in time for the 1998 season, the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks was constructed to recall baseball tradition in the National League’s newest franchise.
When the clamshell roof is closed, an 8,000-ton cooling system chills the seating areas and concourses 30 degrees in just three hours for those hot summer days.
Friday’s Front Row Sports Grill is open year-round for fans who simply want to enjoy the ambience of the ballpark while enjoying lunch, dinner or cocktails.
Amazingly, at 1,100 feet above sea level, Chase Field is the second highest ballpark in the nation. Only Coors Field in the mile-high city of Denver enjoys a higher elevation. Scientists estimate that a fly ball travels seven feet farther for every 1,000 feet of altitude, which may account for why hitters also like the facility.
