Sabow, Anable added to Brewer's administration

Gov. Jan Brewer has announced two more staff appointments, bringing a former Hull administration official and retaining the spokeswoman from her transition team.

Brewer announced Feb. 10 that Kim Sabow, who was the media coordinator for the governor's transition team, will serve as her deputy director of communications, while former state land commissioner Michael Anable will join the administration as Brewer's policy advisor on natural resources.

Sabow joined Brewer's transition team in December as the team's spokeswoman, and will now serve as the governor's primary liaison to all state agency public information officers, according to a press release from the Governor's Office. Anable will advise Brewer on issues such as public lands, water resources, the environment and military bases.

Both new staffers have previous gubernatorial experience. Former Gov. Jane Hull appointed Anable in 1999 as state land commissioner and as a member of the State Parks Board, and he held those positions for four years. Prior to those appointments, he held various resource policy positions in the State Land Department, and worked for two years as a range conservationist for the National Park Service at the Lake Mead Recreational Area.

Anable has also served on several state boards and commissions, including the Governor's Water Management Commission, Growing Smarter Oversight Commission, Joint Legislative Healthy Forest Task Force and the Military Airports Oversight Commission.

Sabow held the position of deputy press secretary in former Gov. Fife Symington's administration, and was an international trade specialist at the Arizona Department of Commerce, where assisted Arizona companies in expanding export sales. Before joining Brewer's transition team, Sabow was a volunteer in Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign, where she served as a liaison to media organizations from across the United States and the world.
