Rep. Sam Crump announced that he will not run for attorney general in 2010, opting instead to seek reelection to the state House of Representatives.
Crump, an Anthem Republican, announced his election plans on his Web site on Dec. 23. Crump filed an exploratory committee for the attorney general’s race in June, but said in his announcement that “it is not the right time for me to pursue that office.”
“I look forward to the opportunity to serve a third term in the House and continue to be a strong conservative voice on behalf of District 6,” Crump wrote.
The announcement leaves Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas and Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Horne as the likely candidates for the Republican nomination in the attorney general’s race. Both have filed exploratory committees for the position, but cannot yet announce official candidacies due to Arizona’s resign-to-run law.
Crump could not be reached for comment. His Web site did not say whether he would endorse another candidate.
