Application process opens for Arizona court vacancy

A state commission is now accepting applications for an upcoming vacancy on the Arizona Supreme Court.

Justice Michael Ryan retires Aug. 6 and his replacement will be chosen by Gov. Jan Brewer from among at least three applicants to be recommended by the state Commission on Appellate Court Appointments.

Applicants for the $155,000-a-year job must be attorneys admitted to practice in Arizona and must have been a state resident for the past 10 years. The applicant must be under age 65 when the nomination is sent to Brewer.

The deadline to submit an application is Aug. 20.
