Arizona Senate President Russell Pearce says he followed state laws in accepting gifts from the Fiesta Bowl and paid for his own tickets to football games.

Pearce and other lawmakers are coming under scrutiny for accepting tickets to sporting events and letting the bowl pick up their costs for junkets.

A report of an investigation conducted of the Fiesta Bowl disclosed a wide array of improper or questionable spending by bowl officials.

Pearce commented briefly on the scandal after a court hearing Friday in the federal government’s challenge to Arizona’s immigration enforcement law.

The Senate president says he has receipts to prove he paid for his tickets.

Pearce declined to say whether he would provide those records to news reporters and then walked out the back door of the courtroom.
