Brewer visits eastern Arizona in wake of big fire

Gov. Jan Brewer traveled to eastern Arizona’s White Mountains on Wednesday, saying she wants to celebrate the area’s ongoing recovery from the Wallow Fire.

Brewer met with local officials, business owners and residents during stops in Springerville and Big Lake.

Her office in Phoenix released a statement in which the governor said she was “proud to be part of a celebration that shows the resilience of Arizonans and the land they call home.”

Brewer’s statement says the White Mountains remain beautiful and it urges people to return to the region to see what it has to offer.

Brewer visited the region the same day that federal prosecutors announced the filing of charges accusing two southern Arizona men of accidentally starting the fire by leaving a campfire unattended.
