GOP business backers urge immigration reform

GOPA group of Arizona Republicans and business leaders on Wednesday urged Congress to act on immigration even as President Barack Obama is poised to take executive action to shield millions of people in the country illegally from deportation.

Members of the advocacy group include state Sen. Bob Worsley, Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery, former Mesa Mayor Scott Smith and Barry Broome, president of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council.

Worsley said the Arizona effort is part of a nationwide push to tamp down anger among GOP members of Congress and channel it toward reform instead. He noted comments from some Arizona Republicans he viewed as counterproductive.

“Our Republican Congressional delegation has been getting a lot of national press on their comments,” Worsley said, “and it’s not been on solving the problem, it’s been ‘how do we punish or reverse what he’s doing.'”

Rep. Paul Gosar, for one, signed on as a sponsor of a bill authorizing the House to sue Obama over his planned immigration action.

“As the president continues to threaten the American people with an executive order granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants, House Republicans are taking the necessary steps … to stop the president’s unconstitutional overreach,” Gosar said in a statement Tuesday.

Worsley said a better reaction for Republicans would be to sidestep Obama’s actions by passing a GOP immigration bill fixing the nation’s broken system.

“To get true visa form, border security, true legal status — not citizenship, not amnesty — you can’t do any of that by executive order,” he said. “You’ve got to go through Congress.”

The president plans to address the nation Thursday on his plans. He said in a video released Wednesday by the White House that Washington has allowed the issue to “fester for too long.”

  1. If this University Professor Jonathan Gruber, the key creator of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), has been caught stating on at least two occasions that Americans are ‘STUPID’. Then President Obama, disavowed on knowing the man, as did prominent members of the Democratic hierarchy Sen. Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Barbara Boxer. Gruber visited the White House 19 times and had a face to face contact with President, at least twice. The American people believing the massive expenditures for this health care Act, is er—affordable? Well we know different now? Since the beginning of this Administration, they have taken the majority of the population for granted. We have been continuously lied to, deceived and given the finger. And it’s still going on?

Then what can we expect with this fast approaching illegal alien amnesty? Of course what I have read the cost is out-the window. It is somewhere in the neighborhood of $9 TRILLION DOLLARS? From the time they get Social Security Cards, work permits and the majority of welfare programs to the time they retire. The Problem is; gigantic problem is in a 50 year period, their collected taxes are estimated to be $3.7 trillion dollars. So US taxpayers have no choice, but to cover the rest. Our country is on the edge of bankruptcy, but may be this is what this Socialist-Communistic group wants?

First the new Congress must cut the ‘purse strings’ for all costs to any new Executive Order, especially for another mass amnesty. BUT DON’T BE BLIND-SIDED FROM THE ARGUMENTS OF THE CAREER REPUBLICANS, AS THEY HAVE NO INTENTIONS OF WANTING TO HALT ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION ALTOGETHER? THEY TOO WANT AN UNRESTRICTED FLOW OF LABOR AND WILL SHELTER THEIR OWN DARK PLAN BY BLAMING THE WHITE HOUSE, WHEN ESSENTIALLY THEY ARE IN AGREEMENT OF ILLEGAL ALIEN AMNESTY?

OH! YES! THIS ILLEGAL ALIEN AMNESTY CAN BE REVERSED.

After working all my life in commercial Shipping, paid my dues to the IRS and kept bread on my families table, I resent wholesale that people who broke the law get rewarded. We now live in a nation, where it’s easier to become a parasite and feed off the workers taxes. Getting something for nothing has never been simpler? WHAT WILL THE NEXT AMNESTY BE—10 MILLION ILLITERATE PEOPLE?

Don’t, we already have enough urban sprawl, water shortages; highways jammed to the limits and a broken infrastrure that desperately need repair and fixing? Don’t we have enough heinous criminal in our prisons and jails, without adding to the populations? Obama added 7 Trillion dollars to the federal treasury previously and now he is going to up it another 9 Trillion? Please God, tell me where it’s coming from? We already have insurmountable poverty in the US and we are adding more?
