Republican U.S. Rep. Martha McSally once again crushed her Democratic competitors in fundraising in Arizona’s 2nd Congressional District.
McSally, who is among the strongest fundraisers in Congress, and who consistently out-raises the rest of Arizona’s Congressional delegation, raised $983,000 between April 1 and June 30, or nearly five times what her closest Democratic challenger raised. She has more than $2.5 million dollars in her war chest so far, and faces no opposition in the GOP primary for the competitive southeastern Arizona district.
McSally won the district against former Democratic U.S. Rep. Ron Barber in 2014 by a mere 161 votes.
Former Democratic state Reps. Matt Heinz and Victoria Steele are competing for the chance to take on McSally in November, though both are at a considerable disadvantage to McSally’s war chest.
Heinz raised $207,000 between April 1 and June 30, leaving him with nearly $420,000 cash on hand. Steele, who has struggled with fundraising, did slightly better this quarter than last, raising $44,000. Her campaign has roughly $56,000 on hand heading into the primary election.
