A bill to arm teachers and administrators could become law, sparking new gun debate

The measure, sponsored by Sen. Rich Crandall, R-Mesa, has been approved by the Senate. Now, lawmakers are tweaking the bill in the House.

Community support and legislation fight unemployment among post-9/11 vets

As a post-9/11 veteran, Enyart is part of a group that had a 9.7 percent unemployment rate as of September, well above the overall unemployment rate of 7.8 percent, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Lawmaker proposes 911 tax for cellphone users with prepaid plans

A state lawmaker wants the one in four Arizona cellphone users who are on prepaid plans to join customers with monthly bills in paying toward 911 service. Legislation by Rep. Bob Robson, R–Chandler, would establish a tax of eight–tenths of 1 percent on prepaid wireless plans that would go into the state’s Emergency Telecommunication Services Revolving Fund.

Memorial to 9/11 preaches vengeance and tolerance

Matthew Salenger etched 54 phrases in a circular piece of steel, building Arizona's Sept. 11 memorial one story at a time. He wanted everyone's story to be told. Salenger thought that all of those thoughts could coexist peacefully on a public memorial. He was wrong.
