Report reveals strong impact of military bases, operations on employment
Close to one out of every 40 jobs in the state is due to the fact that Arizona has multiple military bases and operations. And while that's a lower percentage than when the study was first done in 2000 -- and lower in the absolute number of people employed related to the military -- a new report shows that the financial effects have nearly tripled over the same period.

After seven failed attempts during the past two decades, Arizonans voted heavily in favor of Proposition 119, a ballot measure that will allow the state to swap state land for federal trust land in order to protect military bases from encroachment, as well as preserve sensitive land areas, such as the San Pedro River, in the process.
Driving while using cell phones is banned in Arizona – on military bases
If Kimberly Alford gets a call on one of her two cell phones while driving, she'll either let it go to voice mail or pull over. She wishes others did the same. "I do see a lot of people driving, using their cell phones, and you can see they're not paying attention," Alford said. "You may have to drive more defensively because of that."
