Court gives homeless another chance to plead case

Charles Butler showed up for Homeless Court in a white shirt and tie. He wanted to make a good impression on the judge. Other defendants appeared in Polo shirts and, in one case, Bermuda shorts. "I guess I overdressed," Butler, 48, said.

Records show errors on county property-tax bills

Thousands of property owners in the Phoenix-area may have paid more or less than what they owe in Maricopa County property taxes. The city of Phoenix is going over records of the city's 500,000 parcels "and we would be surprised not to find errors," said Mark Cernetic, deputy budget director.

Arpaio investigating Maricopa County supervisor

A Maricopa County supervisor and frequent critic of Sheriff Joe Arpaio is under criminal investigation by the Sheriff's Office. The Arizona Republic reports the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office has filed a public-records request with Phoenix officials, looking for information on Mary Rose Wilcox and her husband, former state lawmaker Earl Wilcox.
