Hard times lead to more power cutoffs in Phoenix
Two Phoenix area electric utilities cutoff power to more homes in June of this year than in June of 2008. Hard economic times and higher rates led consumers to fall behind in their bills. APS raised average household monthly rates about $4.50 in December, and SRP raised its average bill about $4.70 in October.
SRP proposing 8.8 percent electricity rate hike
The Salt River Project is proposing to raise electricity rates for its more than 900,000 customers by 8.8 percent in October. The rate increase being considered by the public utility serving parts of Maricopa and Pinal County would cost the average household about $12 a month, or nearly $150 a year.
SRP revises earnings projection for fiscal 2010
Officials with one of Arizona's largest utilities predict the company will earn about $25 million less this fiscal year than forecast a few months ago. That could possibly result in rate increases, outsourcing of jobs and other options to manage the budget.
SRP fights to protect stakeholder water rights
We appreciate the Arizona Capitol Times for focusing on the complicated legal battle over the future of the Upper Verde River, but what needs to be emphasized is that Salt River Project is in no way attempting to expand the rights of our water shareholders — not in northern Arizona or any part of our water service territory.
