A freshman lawmaker and a former Arizona real estate commissioner are vying for the Democratic nod to become the state's next chief elections officer and second in line to the governor.
2 Dems eyeing run at GOP incumbent for secretary of state
Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett now wants to stay right where he is, rather than try to move two floors up in the Executive Tower. Bennett, appointed to his position in January, was considering a run for governor, but now that Gov. Jan Brewer is seeking a full term, Bennett said he is no longer eyeing the Ninth Floor and is looking to keep his job on the seventh.
Pederson endorsing Wercinski
After tantalizing followers via Twitter on Tuesday with the promise of a "BIG" endorsement, Sam Wercinski announced today Jim Pederson is backing him. The bigwig Democratic developer will also serve on Wercinski's finance committee for the SOS race, the former real estate commissioner said. "We've done a lot of work and solidified our base and support statewide," Wercinski told our reporter.
Wercinski announces candidacy for Secretary of State
Former Arizona Real Estate Commissioner Sam Wercinski has announced he will run for Secretary of State. Wercinski, a former Air Force officer, issued a press release and a call for contributions on Aug. 28 after concluding a six week campaign organizing effort.
