After tantalizing followers via Twitter on Tuesday with the promise of a “BIG” endorsement, Sam Wercinski announced today Jim Pederson is backing him. The bigwig Democratic developer will also serve on Wercinski’s finance committee for the SOS race, the former real estate commissioner said. “We’ve done a lot of work and solidified our base and support statewide,” Wercinski told our reporter.
Originally, the Wercinski campaign appeared to be humming smoothly and without opposition, but Rep. Christopher Deschene recently filed an exploratory committee and announced that he might seek the Dem nomination for SOS as well. Some folks in Democratic circles aren’t happy about it. A source close to the Wercinski campaign said the freshman lawmaker is muddying the waters for Wercinski by launching an unnecessary and unwinnable primary challenge while possibly compromising what could be a promising future. The source and others have urged Deschene to stay out of the race, the source told our reporter. “People don’t want to see him get excited for something and really burn out a bridge,” the source told our reporter.
