Feds respond to criticism about Arpaio allegations

Federal authorities who accused Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s office of civil rights allegations say the county’s top prosecutor can find facts to back up the allegations in the sheriff’s own records.

County Attorney Bill Montgomery criticized the U.S. Justice Department last week for not giving him additional information to support the allegations that Arpaio’s office racially profiled Latinos, failed to adequately investigate a large number of sex-crimes cases and committed other violations.

Montgomery’s criticism echoes a complaint by Arpaio.

The Justice Department told Montgomery in a letter Monday that the information he seeks can be found in records from the sheriff’s office and lawsuits.

Montgomery’s office had no immediate comment Monday.

Arpaio has denied the civil rights allegations.

    More avoidance and denial by the Justice Dept.
    The Justice Dept. is attempting to railroad Sheriff Arpaio.
    Why don’t they indict Attorney General Eric Holder on
    his involvement with the “Fast and Furious”, scandal
    They protect their own.
