Jerry G. Landau has received an Arizona Prosecutor Lifetime Achievement Award from the Arizona Prosecuting Attorneys Advisory Council. Mr. Landau, a special assistant to Maricopa County Attorney Richard Romley, has been a prosecutor for 24 of his 28 years of practicing law. Mr. Landau has helped rewrite many criminal, juvenile and vehicular statutes, including those involving the death penalty and DUI. “Jerry Landau is an individual who has worked tirelessly to advocate the interests of the public safety and criminal justice at the Legislature,” according to Edwin Cook, executive director of the Arizona Prosecuting Attorneys Advisory Council.

Patricia Lee Refo of Snell & Wilmer is the chairwoman of the American Bar Association Section of Litigation. Ms. Refo’s one-year term began this month. Ms. Refo, a partner with the firm’s Phoenix office, practices commercial litigation. She has been involved with the Section of Litigation of the American Bar Association for more than 15 years. The section membership includes lawyers, judges and others involved in litigation and the dispute resolution process. Ms. Refo was recently appointed by U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist to serve on the Advisory Committee on the Federal Rules of Evidence for the United States Judicial Conference. The American Bar Association has 410,000 members and provides law school accreditation, continuing legal education programs to assist lawyers and judges in their work, and initiatives to improve the legal system. The Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce has received four of the seven 2002-2003 achievement awards for membership development from the National Association of Membership Development, a division of the American Chamber of Commerce. The Phoenix Chamber’s awards include highest:
• Total new membership dollars.
• Net gain in new membership dollars.
• Retention rate for chambers with more than 2,500 members.
• Net gain in members.
Established in 1888 and representing more than 4,600 companies with more than 400,000 employees, the Greater Phoenix Chamber is Arizona’s oldest and largest chamber.

John “Rick” Shireman has been named been named the state coordinator for the National Park Service in Arizona. He will assume his new job supporting park staff and working with other agencies in November. Mr. Shireman is superintendent of Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Oklahoma. He has worked for the National Park Service since 1973. His wife, Sarah Craighead, is superintendent of Saguaro National Park near Tucson.
