There Is No Evidence Secondhand Smoke Hurts Anyone

Rep. Linda Lopez, D-Dist. 29, stated in her Commentary on secondhand smoke that: “We have incontrovertible evidence that secondhand smoke hurts and kills people.” [Statewide Smoking Ban Would Rid Bars, Restaurants of Secondhand Smoke, Aug. 8].
Far be it for me to defend smoking, but there is no such evidence. The often-cited EPA report was withdrawn when it was shown that their data was incorrect.
If someone making laws is this poorly informed it raises serious questions about that lawmaker’s ability to research topics.—
