Population
• 31,146 is the number of inmates in the state prison system, consisting of 28,745 in state-operated prisons, 2,315 in privately operated prisons, 86 in Coconino County Jail.
• 27,178 is the number of permanent beds.
• 3,968 is the bed deficit, handled temporarily by housing inmates in tents, converted day rooms and exceeding dormitories’ design capacities.
Growth
• 160 is the monthly inmate population growth for next five years, as projected by the Department of Corrections.
• 147 is the monthly growth during last 12 months.
• 119.3 is the monthly growth during past 10 years.
