Southwest Ambulance provided lunch and a free blood pressure check for lawmakers and staff April 7 on the Senate lawn as a way to recognize Arizona emergency medical service workers.
“As a fun way to bring attention to EMS workers, we thought we’d see who is more stressed,” said Barry Landon, president of Southwest Ambulance. Blood pressure readings for individuals were not disclosed, but the technicians did tally separate average scores for the House and Senate.
The House registered an average of 142/86 for 30 people (members and staff), while the Senate came in at 127/76 for 27 persons (also members and staff). A normal blood pressure reading is generally considered to be about 120/78. —
