Prop. 200 Will Put Demand For Immigration Reform In National Spotlight

Arizona Capitol Reports Staff//September 17, 2004//[read_meter]

The passage of Proposition 200 will be the first step on the road to real enforcement of our immigration laws.

Proposition 200 has become symbolic of the frustration the American people have with our government’s refusal to enforce all our immigration laws.

The White House and the U.S. Congress are not responding to the people’s demand for action on illegal immigration.

Employers are hiring undocumented aliens without any fear of penalty or prosecution because the federal government is looking the other way. The employment of these illegal immigrants is causing a massive number of people to illegally cross our borders in search of jobs, and many of these people will perish in the desert.

The passage of Proposition 200 will put the national spotlight on the demand by the people for immigration control.

I have gathered signatures for this initiative and I can testify to the anger people feel about uncontrolled illegal immigration. Proposition 200 is a cry for help; it is a demand by the people of Arizona that the laws be faithfully executed.

The opponents of Proposition 200 should answer some questions:

Why are we wrong to want to protect the integrity of our electoral system?

What is wrong with verifying eligibility for taxpayer funded benefits?

Why is the federal government refusing to prosecute employers of illegal aliens?

The people of Arizona deserve answers to these questions.
