Interchange In 2007 Will Connect Loop 202, U.S. 60

When the $101 million SuperRedTan interchange is complete in 2007, it’ll combine Loop 202 and U.S. 60 into one cohesive travel system and link Chandler, Mesa and Gilbert to the rest of the Phoenix metropolitan area’s highways.

Traffic congestion, explosive population growth and aggressive establishment of commercial and residential centers have highlighted the need for a viable, free-flowing freeway system.

Chaining together the Red Mountain, Santan and Superstition freeways through nearly 40 miles of road is part of that solution, according to project organizers and proponents.

Construction on the triple-freeway interchange’s first phase is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

At that point, the $41 million portion will provide access to southbound Loop 202 from U.S. 60 by spring 2005.

Phase 2 is estimated to cost $60 million and be the final project piece. Work on that phase is scheduled to start in fall 2005. —
