Rep. Phil Hanson, R-9, was inducted along with 18 other individuals into the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame in a Nov. 4 ceremony at El Zaribah Shrine Auditorium, 552 N. 40th St., Phoenix. Mr. Hanson was born in Phoenix in 1932 and retired from the U.S. Army Reserve in 1992 as colonel in the Medical Service Corps. The Hall of Fame includes the late U.S. Senator Barry Goldwater and the late Congressman Bob Stump. Mr. Hanson lives in Peoria. He has served in the House since 2001.

Sen. Barbara Leff, R-11, has been named Legislator of the Year by the Arizona Retailers Association board of directors. During the 2004 legislative session, “Senator Leff demonstrated concern about specific issues targeting other businesses but inadvertently impacting retail. She protected retailers on issues that were designed to change operations of a specific retailer but in fact were damaging to all retailers, and other business sectors,” according to Michelle Ahlmer, the group’s executive director. The award will be presented during a lunch ceremony at the Wrigley Mansion in Phoenix on Nov. 16. Rep. Deb Gullett is the recipient of the first Charlie Stevens Award, created by the Arizona Physical Therapy Association to honor the late Capitol lobbyist. The group said it wanted to start an award that “embodied the qualities that Charlie Stevens demonstrated… integrity, fairness and effectiveness,” the group said in a press release. Mr. Stevens died April 17 after a battle with cancer. He was 73. He began lobbying in 1964 and retired after the 2002 legislative session.

Heidi Staudenmaier, a partner with Snell & Wilmer’s Phoenix office, has been elected to a six-year term on the Iowa Law School Foundation board of directors. The foundation solicits and manages gifts for the University of Iowa, College of Law. Ms. Staudenmaier joins lifetime honorary board member John J. Bouma, chairman of Snell & Wilmer, on the board. Her practice is Indian law, gaming law and general business litigation. She earned her bachelor of arts in journalism and broadcasting at the University of Iowa in 1981 and followed that with a law degree in 1985.

Adda Alexander, a registered nurse, has joined the Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association (AzHHA) as executive vice president. She will oversee the Association’s communications, education, finance and member-support services as well as its group-purchasing entity, the AzHHA Service Corp. For the past three years, Ms. Alexander has served as chief nursing officer/vice president of patient services for Maricopa Integrated Health System. One of Ms. Alexander’s responsibilities will be to guide the Association’s workforce initiatives, including the Healthcare Institute and the Campaign for Caring (CFC). Both address the state’s shortage of healthcare professionals. —
