A Kingman company is designing a robotic military vehicle to enter in a competition next year that could lead to a Department of Defense contract.
Jackson Digital Imaging is tearing apart and rebuilding a 1941 Dodge military ambulance to enter in the race.
“This is not robot wars with a joy stick,” said Kevin Jackson, president of Jackson Digital Imaging. “Vehicles must be truly autonomous.”
About 150 applicants have registered for the competition.
Department of Defense officials will be inspecting the vehicles in May. A qualifying event is slated for next September.
The team whose vehicle completes the route fastest will win $2 million. —
