Governor Releases Emergency Funds For Coconino County

Arizona Capitol Reports Staff//December 31, 2004//[read_meter]

Heavy rains from a wind-whipped winter storm over Coconino County Dec. 29 resulted in Governor Napolitano declaring an emergency and the release of $200,000 from her Emergency Management Fund to repair storm damage and other emergency related expenses.

The storm battered Flagstaff, Oak Creek Canyon and other communities with high winds, snow and 3.6 inches of rain in 24 hours, causing flash flooding, numerous accidents, road and bridge closures and evacuation of hundreds of residents.

The Arizona Division of Emergency Management provided 15,000 sandbags to Coconino and Yavapai counties, and the emergency declaration authorized activation of the Arizona National Guard if its assistance is needed. —
