Governor Napolitano says the state is preparing for additional flooding in northern Arizona from a storm front forecast for Monday.
“We’re pre-positioning equipment in preparation for a warmer and wetter storm,” which could cause flooding from snowmelt, she told reporters at a briefing Wednesday.
The governor said no damage estimates were available on previous flooding that struck four counties last week. “It’s impossible to put a real number on it now,” she said.
On another subject, Ms. Napolitano said statements from Sen. Thayer Verschoor, R-22, that he intends to sponsor legislation to eliminate the AIMS test, could mislead students into thinking they can avoid the test.
“We create a false impression among juniors that somehow something’s going to happen that’s going to get them out of this, and I don’t think that’s an accurate expectation,” she said.
“I’ve never been a supporter of a single high-stakes test. I think you have to look at graduation requirements with a lot of other relevant factors included. I also have said repeatedly, it is the law of Arizona. I also have said repeatedly if you are a junior, I fully expect you will have to pass the AIMS test to get a high school diploma, and you better prepare for that,” Ms. Napolitano said.
