Arizona’s lawmakers are considering a bill (H2477) that would allow shoppers to sample beer, whiskey and wine inside grocery stores. It seems our legislators are concerned shoppers who are not sure if they want to spend $60 on a bottle of wine, or the latest brand of liqueur, need to sample the alcohol inside grocery stores.
I have seen people who look confused in the liquor section, but I just thought they were drunk. It seems to me that if they were not sure if they should spend $60 on a bottle of wine, then they would be better off keeping the $60.
Who would benefit from making a law that allows confused buyers to sample the wares at the grocery store? Most people can’t tell the difference between a $4 bottle of Gallo, from a $160,000 bottle of Bordeaux, 1787 Chateau Lafite. The people who can tell the difference are not going to stand in a grocery store aisle sampling wine.
Why do Arizona’s lawmakers feel that it is more important for people to be able to sample wine, beer and distilled spirits, than various frozen dinners?
Let’s bring common sense back to the table.—
